We already do that with AirPlay, no new "TV" necessary. I through laptop/desktop screens up on the "TV" all the time.
I love AirPlay, mirroring stuff is great. I also enjoy using my iThings as remotes. But having an intelligent, connected machine in the living room, I think creates a different experience. Like maybe:
You're on your couch having a FaceTime conversation. When the topic of dinner comes up, you can ask (an improved?) Siri for menus, hours, delivery, etc. With Siri's answer, the screen splits between FaceTime and all of your requested info.
You name a movie title and your iTV shows you every video service (iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, maybe Amazon) that can immediately serve you your choice. Extra points for fetching a decent torrent.
As more stuff becomes iOS connected, your iTV becomes your butler. While watching a movie you can ask Siri to turn up the heat (Nest), turn down the lights (Hue), start the popcorn (not a Samsung microwave).
Anyway, just playing with ideas...
ps: the i7/16GB/SSD Mini is a great little machine. |
