Gold, as Soros said, "is the ultimate bubble." Gold's time is not here yet. Gold is about as much in a bubble as a blimp with a slow leak.

I was just reading a book titled simply "The Great Depression." It is full of anecdotes of the period 1929-1940, and when I read them, I begin to sympathize a little with the kind of thing that Bernanke is desperate to head off. People lost family farms that they had spent all their lices building up. Men with large families committed suicide because they were unable to feed them. People debated whether shining shoes or selling apples was more profitable. Compared to those times, we are swimming in affluence. Now we worry about obesity among children. Then there were schools where 80% of the children were seriously underweight. This is in the United States.
