Here's a 15-minute chart answer for your gold vs. silver question. Before yesterday, the gold/silver ratio had gotten overbought, and hit a sell signal (PPO is price-normalized MACD), so silver far outperformed gold yesterday.

Today, the gold/silver ratio had gotten oversold, and hit a buy signal, so gold has far outperformed (gone down less than) silver.

Now, the ratio has gotten overbought again on this chart, with a sell signal indicating silver is likely to outperform gold over the short term, which is usually bullish for both. I think longer term, silver will also outperform gold, though with much higher volatility.
