Las Vegas is a place that, well, defines excess -- the perfect locale
for Comdex/Fall. Here's a look at some of the products and services
that caught my fancy.
Say "Digital Cheese!": The big surprise this year was the explosion
of digital cameras. It seems that everywhere I turned, another one was
on display. I saw an array of features, storage options, output
capabilities, and just plain innovation, including a vast plaza
dedicated to many variations on the digital photography theme from, of
all companies, Kodak! Putting this together convinced me that, for many
purposes, the days of traditional film and take-it-to-the-store
processing and printing may be numbered. Couple this with the exploding
uses of images on the Web and the yearly increases in digital camera
price per performance (driven by Moore's Law), and we have a
significant trend.
