I read on AOL that as of July 96' ATMEL still regarded the
lawsuit issue as far from being settled.

Specifically Atmel was granted patent No. 4,419,747 and
,451,903 which is the basis for the SSTI line of EEPROM fash
memory devices.

Atmel did joint development with a company called SEEQ
Technology, Inc. regarding these patents and eventually
bought them out to be the sole owner.

An attorney following the case stated that the only angle
SSTI might have is that SEEQ Technology sought adoption of
a standard at one time and was not very active in enforcing
the patents. This attorney didn't think much of SSTI's
chances of winning.

Unfortunately I can't come accross any 'recent' news that
would suggest that the lawsuit was put to rest.

I would imagine this lawsuit will hurt SSTI in their efforts
to license the technology.
