Multiple gun control laws existed in CT. The guns used in the CT shooting were registered .. to the shooter's mother, killed by the shooter. The school was a gun free zone.* The shooter was too young to legally possess a gun in CT.

To buy a gun, Connecticut law requires residents apply for a local permit, typically with the town's police chief, have their fingerprints taken and submit to a state and federal background check with a 14-day waiting period. To buy a handgun, residents also are required to take a gun safety course.

The state is also one of seven to have an assault weapons ban that specifically lists more than 35 semiautomatic and automatic weapons.

....

* Additionally, possession of a weapon of any kind on a Connecticut school ground is prohibited and is also a Class D felony.
...

Only 16.7% of CT residents own a firearm. Only 3 states have lower rates of gun ownership.

The problem isn't lax gun laws ... it's the people who don't abide by the laws
