Google hasn't said anything about removing client-side EAS support from Android. Early versions of Android did not support EAS, and that was a big deal breaker, as Google well knows. This recent announcement is about removing server-side EAS support from GMail. This hurts Windows Phone disproportionately, because most other platforms have alternative ways to sync data with Google.
