Hi John. Yes, we're talking at cross purposes.

You speak in generalities about controlling guns and gun violence because we "desperately need it."

I agree that we "need" to control gun violence but my point is that unless there is some prospective legislative policy that we could implement to accomplish that goal then we should attack the problem of senseless gun violence through other methods. In that sense my view is narrower and more pragmatic.

Guns are a part of American culture and that won't change for a generation or more. Every once in a while someone is going to shoot up a crowd because they're sick minded. Guns are going to continue to be used in crimes and in suicides and they are going to continue to be misused to kill people accidentally. Like storms and disease, we simply have to concentrate on preparedness and prevention because the guns aren't going away.

In the interim, talking about gun control simply arouses the right, generates a ton of money, assures the election of the most rabid right wingers and fills the pockets of those selling guns.

I understand the emotional outcry but until someone can come up with a proposed "gun control" solution that is both politically feasible and effective in stopping gun violence, why stir up a hornet's nest by calling for a magical gun control fix that doesn't exist? Ed
