As predicted... MS is welcoming all these ActiveSync users with open arms, ROFL. Google has also dropped self-signed cert SMTP too, sure to piss off a ton of domain admins... I guess there's no payola from CAs in self-signed certs. Adobe does this same BS with Acrobat reader... no payola (use of specific certs from CA's they approve through their OWN public key infrastructure)... no validation of signed PDFs, thank you very much.

In a blog post
Microsoft professed surprise at Google’s move to drop Exchange ActiveSync support, but noted that this was an excellent opportunity to move to a better service, Outlook.com.

Calling POP and IMAP protocols so ancient it was invented before mobile phones, they noted that ActiveSync was only 10 years old and designed for Mobile from the start, meaning better battery life with Direct Push email and conservation of bandwidth.
