What in our culture encourages said violence? Is it the individualism? The "I gotta get my respect by any means necessary" culture? How about the violent video games and movies? I heard events for the upcoming Quentin Tarantino movie Django Unchained were cancelled because of the shootings in CT. So many factors...ethnic heterogeneity, perpetual state of war, poverty, inner city blight, violence on TV, cinema, videogames...and guns...lack of uniformity around the nation regarding permitting, the types available, ease of availability, lack of required training and education, you name it...there's a lot that can be done short of banning guns to educate those who wish to own them...just the sheer number of guns works ups the odds in cases like the one in CT, and a messed up regulatory process makes it easier for people to shoot one another on the streets of our cities... What about the fact that children today can't tell the difference between right and wrong? Maybe all of this "truth is relative" nonsense pushed by post-modern "progressives" is coming back to bite society in the ass. I don't even know what this means. This is probably the time to pray for our nation. Don't like prayer, especially in our schools? Then come up with another solution that saves us from ourselves. Security and education....parental and children. Guns are not necessarily bad...some guns are unnecessary in society and owning the ones permitted is an awesome responsibility that comes with some regulations/restrictions and a solemn understanding that they can be used to hurt people and therefore should be handled accordingly. My neighbor is a gun fanatic. His two children walk around his property (few acres) with guns and no supervision. I am terrified that they will accidentally shoot in the direction of my house and hit a window....guess what...there's nothing I can do. It's legal...one example of gun culture and NRA complicity.
