Having asked Google, I read a bit about dinkum gold in Oz found by Chinese in old tailings, and some fish liquid used in China which had tomato added in England.

The French ban english words though presumably not restaurant, cafe, entrepreneur, while the English adopt words from anywhere and everywhere. The English were world champion adventurers who adopted culture that was good. Fortunately for you they also established some English cultural headquarters around the world, such as Hong Kong. Imagine China without Hong Kong and Shanghai. It would be like a larger version of North Korea. People have been escaping from China for centuries.

Grandson Sebastian's [aka Wai Ying] other grandfather swam for freedom from China to Hong Kong, three times. Fortunately, the "shoot them in the back" police were not on site. I know you think it's good to shoot them in the back, to protect the place they go to, but when he arrived in NZ, we could have shot him in the front if we had wanted to do so. Instead, he met a Chiwi and had four children, one of whom helped create my grandson Sebastian, who was born in London, England, just a few kilometres from ancestral Peckham. I quite like that his other grand father got here and was not shot in the back.

Isn't it good that the British established Hong Kong so that ketchup was adopted, and dinkum gold can be safely stored there, and people could escape from China. Now, escape is not so assured as the Made in China soldiers marched in and are in charge.
