I am not sure what you mean.

"if there was a gov't revolt, none of your weapons would save you"

You must mean a revolt against the government. I will go with that because gov'ts can't revolt, unless it is a military coup or something.

In our culture the people most likely to be gun owners are also the people most likely to have served or to have relatives serving in the armed forces. So, a revolt against the gov't by the "gun owning" populous would probably be met with little resistance ... especially since we are a long ways from the type of regime control you saw in Iraq or Libia.

In modern Western cultures, government crack downs are not popular. Remember the students at Penn State? Recall the backlash the government got after the massacre at Ruby Ridge and the Branch Davidians at WACO. Those were pretty radical groups but just the same our culture does not have the stomach for that sort of thing. Those were not examples of active revolt. Our government answers to the populous. Guns in the hands of citizens definitely keeps the Government at bay with regard to over zealous storm troopers.

So, would you condone the government unleashing it's military forces if people rebelled over the gun ownership issue? Most people wouldn't approve of using our government forces in such a way. This issue is likely to get more and more serious so ...
