Have you heard of Afghanistan?
I have no problem with the govt putting restrictions on firearms. Here is my reasoning: There is no way one can protect themselves from the US govt if it goes tyrannical.
As far as I can tell, the people in Afghanistan armed with little more than crude explosives, automatic weapons and maybe some RPGs were able to fend off not one but TWO nuclear super powers. The former USSR fall apart after they were defeated in Afghanistan.

What is somewhat fascinating in how what happens parallels our history, the people in the areas formerly occupied by the USSR wanted to practice their own form of religion.
Thomas Jefferson said : "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
You don't need enough fire power to win... just make it painful enough for the tyrants to leave you alone. Spines on a porcupine. I think in different wars they are called revolutionaries who defeated the Red Coats, or "the resistance" or many other names... none had superior fire power... just enough to inflict more pain the the superior force was willing to accept.
