Interesting stuff on notebook batteries.

forum.notebookreview.com

I got the link from a wikipedia article on memory effect. Modern notebook batteries do not suffer from conventional memory effect degradation.

It looks like you "calibrate" your battery by running it down to automatic cut-off point of your notebook once every 30 charges, and a full recharge is not a optimum way to preserve battery life.

I have my notebook power settings to warn at 6% and automatically shut the machine down at 3%.

Keeping it connected to a charger is not a good idea as repeated charges to full capacity shorten battery life as SI Ron has experienced.
