John E. Black, B.Sc., M.Sc. – CEO and Director Mr. John Black, the founding President of Antares Minerals Inc. in May of 2004, and was instrumental in acquiring the Haquira project in Peru for Antares. He was the key driver in negotiating the sale of Antares to First Quantum Minerals for C$650 million.
Mr. Black is an economic geologist with more than 25 years of exploration experience in South America, North America, Central Asia, the SW Pacific, and Eastern Europe/Western Asia. Mr. Black received a B.Sc. degree in Geology from Stanford University in 1983 and an M.S. degree in Geology - Ore Deposits Exploration from the same University in 1988.
From 1981-1993, Mr. Black worked for Bear Creek Mining Company and Kennecott in North America and Mexico. He was involved in a wide variety of projects and programs including the delineation drilling of the Rawhide low sulphidation epithermal Au-Ag deposit in Nevada and the Mulatos high sulphidation epithermal Au-Ag deposit in Mexico, a short stint at the Lihir Au project in Papua New Guinea, and grass-roots exploration for volcanic-hosted epithermal Au in the western USA. From 1990-93 he was member of a small team assembled to evaluate and to explore for additional Cu and Au mineralization in the Bingham Canyon porphyry Cu-Mo-Au district, Utah.
In 1993, Mr. Black was seconded to RTZ, Kennecott’s parent corporation, to explore for Porphyry Cu deposits in N. Chile and in 1994 become Principal Geologist for RTZ in Ecuador. Mr. Black joined Western Mining Corporation (WMC) in 1995 as Chief Geologist – S. America based in Santiago, Chile and gained extensive experience in Chile, Argentina, and Peru with additional time also spent in most other S. American countries. From 1998-2002 Mr. Black was WMC’s Technical Exploration Manager for porphyry Cu exploration in Chile and Peru.
In 2002, after 9 years in S. America, he was repatriated to WMC’s office in Denver, Colorado and spent most of the next two years exploring for porphyry Cu-Au deposits in Turkey and Mongolia where he was a Director for WMC’s local entity. Mr. Black has authored or co-authored several articles and abstracts on the geology of epithermal Au-Ag and porphyry Cu-Au deposits in scientific journals.
WayneHewgill, B.Sc. – COO
Mr. Hewgill is a Professional Geoscientist with over 25 years of experience in the exploration industry in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Prior to holding the position of Vice President Corporate Development with Antares Minerals, he spent 5 years’ as a mining analyst for two Canadian financial institutions focusing on early and advanced stage exploration companies. He holds a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of British Columbia and is registered as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) with APEGBC. From 1983 to 1986, he worked for Chevron Minerals in northern BC in the area surrounding the Golden Bear gold deposit in northern British Columbia. During this time he was responsible for a number of new grass roots discoveries in the region where he completed his undergraduate thesis. In 1987 he worked for a Canadian junior exploration company on a drill programme outlining a large bulk tonnage gold deposit on Spanish Mountain in central British Columbia.
In 1988, he worked in New Zealand for Australian Consolidated Minerals managing a regional exploration programme on the south and north islands exploring for epithermal and mesothermal gold deposits.
During his 16 year career with BHP from 1990 to 2005, Mr. Hewgill explored for gold in the Canadian arctic and was a part of the exploration team that discovered of the Ulu gold deposit. He then moved to Zimbabwe where he spent four years working on the feasibility study for the Hartley Platinum Mine. After leaving BHP, he spent a year working at the University of Zimbabwe establishing the teaching laboratory for the new MSc programme in exploration geology. Returning to BHP in South Africa, and later Vancouver, Mr. Hewgill spent 9 years analyzing junior exploration company projects and designing risk management studies for international exploration.
As a mining analyst for two Vancouver based financial institutions, he initiated and maintained coverage on a number of junior mineral exploration companies and helped market those companies to buy side analysts in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, New York and London. Mr. Hewgill is also well known for the Drill Tracker database he developed which graphically highlights drilling results that stand out from the pack.

Mr. Leask has a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in geological engineering from the University of British Columbia and is a Professional Engineer. He was the CEO and President of Pachamama Resources Ltd. from 2008 to 2012, and has served as a director of Mansfield Minerals Inc. since 1998 and as a director of Highway 50 Gold Corp. since 2008. Mr. Leask has over 30 years of experience in the exploration and mining business at all levels.

Mr. Leask has a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in geological engineering from the University of British Columbia and is a Professional Engineer.
