I am a little late jumping in on this. Just got home from a Christmas party. You should be able to connect your DVD and other peripherals using the standard wiring diagram that came with your TV instructions. If you are using a Comcast HD remote that is for just the TV functions. To change to using the DVD and other input functions you should be using the remote that came with your TV. It usually has a TV/Video button that allows you to switch devices and when switching to DVD it will show on your TV screen.

I even have an old VHS hooked up to my HD TV to play some old tapes that I like. They all function off of the TV remote.
