I don't like playing in the registry. My Windows 7 machines will never have the registry cleaned. I did a couple times on my Windows XP machine, but that was about 2 times over a 7.5 year period and no problems.

I think it's better to image your drive, install software you want to test, if you don't like it, restore the image and it was like it was never installed.
