I read the book - and I do recommend it. As i recall, he uses data showing that the birth rates in most Muslim countries are coming down. Turkey is one example. One fascinating factoid that I recall has to do with Iran. It turns out that simple literacy seems to be associated with a huge impact on the birthrate in that country. Illiterate country girls most of the time are having some 8 children or more. With those who learn to read, the numbers of kids quickly come down to the same low levels (below replacement) as in Europe - to about 1.5 or so.

It's funny - not all that long ago the big scare was the unlimited growth of populations. Today, in many places the potential for depopulation is gradually becoming the greater threat.
