Moon phases - years ago there was a bunch of us working together used to drink at this beer parlour where quite a few taxi drivers hung out, their dispatch was close and two ladies from there used to come over sometimes ... completely different world, the one these people deal with

Their wildest stories were of Welfare Wednesday, and of full moon nights ... this province pays welfare the last wednesday of the month, i think it is, business for taxis gets brisk and eventful, they make good money and get tips from people they otherwise wouldn't, there tends to be some form of violence at points through the evening, which goes on well into the wee hours next day ... and with full moons it's not only that night, but often the daytime as well that's busy, with weird happenings

Craziest of all, were times when Welfare Wednesday fell on a full moon, as it did one summer/fall day in the eighties ... for a week at least in advance we were hearing them anticipate it, with no little dread, then long after they were telling stories ... nobody died, in the immediate vicinity, at least, so nothing made the papers, but i was left with firm conviction that yes, phases of the moon do have effect on this species, be it logical or no
