no, no, no. Most TVs these days have multiple HDMI inputs. I have a 42" Proscan in the family room that has DVD a PS3 and a Wii hooked up to it. My daughter just selects HDMI 1, 2 or 3 using the input selector on the remote. My 32" Samsung TV in the main floor bedroom is the same. Assuming your player has HDMI outputs, connect it direct to the TV, OT through the cable box.

While we're on the subject, I was gifted at Christmas an HDMI adapter that will let me hook my iPad and iPhone up to the TV. I can download a show or movie from iTunes and should be able to watch it on the big screen.
