Barry and All,

Just a thought on Intel's marketing going forward. Currently Intel is introducing new chips at a very rapid pace, without much fanfare or significant improvement in performance. Sometime in 1998, we will have 166, 200 and 233 P/MMX, PII's in 233, 266, 300, 350, 400, 450. JMHO, but I think this is confusing to the consumer, and the the step up in performance doesn't always appear to justify the cost to go the high end. I am sure that at least part of the motivation for this is to introduce a new faster chip as soon as possible to remain well ahead of competition.

Just thinking outloud, but wouldn't it be a more effective strategy to eliminate the some of the intemediate products for a leaner and more deferentiated product line, with clearer price point and performance advantages? For instance, in PII's to go from 233 to 300 to 400 to whatever comes after 450 would give you a good-better-best-premium marketing strategy that would make price/benefit decisions easier for consumers (business and retail). An added benefit is that you could use more marketing $'s and fanfare for each new release, and it would appear to be a larger step in new technology and performance.

Just some thoughts, comments welcome.

John
