My husband and I received a surprise visit this afternoon from a young friend, a twenty-seven-year-old nurse whom I met as a result of my job. I have known Jessica for about six years and we have become very close. She recently became engaged to a young Army man who is currently stationed upstate. I have heard a great deal about him over the year that she has known him, but had not met him until this afternoon. Knew I liked him already – he treats Jess well, sees her whenever his leaves will allow, has a sense of personal morality that is growing more rare among his generation, and is a staunch political conservative (was a Santorum supporter early on). :)

Jess is not very politics-oriented. She knew enough to vote for Romney/Ryan, but certainly not why the alternative was absolutely unthinkable.

Her fiancé will be leaving next week for a nine-month assignment in Afghanistan. I had to keep myself from saying things like, ‘We have no business in Afghanistan anymore, and any blood that is shed there from now until our scheduled withdrawal (*spit*) will be young American blood shed entirely in vain by a narcissistic and politically-driven man who isn’t fit to shine the courageous war victims’ shoes.’

After they left, I couldn’t help but sit here wondering how many young American couples are facing the same fate, and how many young men and women will not return to their loved one(s), simply because a president who loathes the American military, but is playing a political role, and using them as his personal pawns, hasn’t yet decided to bring them home to safety. He knows full well that, once he does, the enemy will simply move in and take over the ground that so many of them died to defend.

Evil is at the helm here in America. And, despite the fact that so many others are in its crosshairs significantly more than I (I am sure the family members of many right here on this forum fall into that category), I can’t help but feel more personally angered about the fact that our Commander-in-Chief is an anti-American, self-absorbed political hack than I did just twenty-four hours ago.
