Of course we should not calibrate our lives by the McGovern era, but we should study and remember
history for perspective.

To a centrist, I suppose people like Bernie Sanders and Dennis Kucinich might appear hard left.
But not to most liberals.
For example:
On December 11, 2006 in a speech delivered at Cleveland City Hall, Kucinich announced he would seek the nomination of the Democratic Party for President in 2008. His platform for 2008 included:
