Krugman made two points in that particular blog post: one had to do with his presumption that the market effects of the fiscal cliff venture would be less than a failure to renew the debt ceiling. That looks to be the case to me. Moreover, I suspect that a failure to pass the bill last night would have been remedied fairly soon. So it seems to me Krugman was more right than wrong on that one.

As for his second argument, that Obama's negotiating style this time around would lead the Reps to feel they could roll him on the debt ceiling issue, that strikes me as a good argument as well. He simply wanted a deal more than the Reps in the House.

We disagree but it will be more than interesting to see what happens to those negotiations in the spring.
