No, there is no particular population whose basic economic survival has been tied to a successful conclusion.

Perhaps it is inaccurate to characterize 2,000,000 families as a population

..but if you do not believe those folks economic survival was at risk, you may be a Republican, too

And the Republicans used the threat of cutting those folks off the year before, during the "Debt ceiling" game also

americanprogress.org

Unfortunately it appear as though a substantial portion of the electorate finds it fairly easy to ignore or simply forget, the plight of folks impacted by the failure of our government to find paths to create opportunities for our citizenry

I suppose those so afflicted are fortunate in one respect

...they have a president who is willing to take criticism from his "supporters" rather than cast them adrift like the GOP and the punditry advocate

Someone in the right spot who understands their desperation and is willing to advocate for them rather than listen to those smug in their own situations

And since I believe that population is now guaranteed access to benefits for at least a year, a substantial hostage taking gambit of the GOP is not available for the next debt ceiling fiasco and that pressure not bearing on Obama may make a difference in how he negotiates with the Luddites
