Al- my primary reason for intially purchasing Ampex stock as well as continuing to hold was not solely for the prospects of "keepered media", it was for the DST product line. With the advent of HDTV and DBS, I think DST will play a big role in the broadcast industry. It also will find its way deeper into the mass digital storage market- to be used for near-real time data backups for massive databases. There are many companies that could lose thousands of dollars for every minute of network downtime. I also think the Mitsubishi appeal will be successful- though not until late '98 or early '99. Look for more patent infringement lawsuits in the future (even though they eat into whatever small profits they earn). I'm looking for a future consumer electronic device to come out of Ampex in time for HDTV- possibly a digital VCR. Still some years away though. If KM is adopted, that would certainly help. When and if it will be adopted is anyone's guess. Enough rambling for now...
