Very good article in the current Semiconductor Business News (sorry no URL, I get the magazine the old fashioned way). There are 3 bits of good news for Cymer in the article:

1. Nikon is about to ship their ArF 193nm production scanner. The article says that it uses a Cymer laser. I haven't heard mention of this previously. This is very good news as I was fearing that Lambda Physiks was targeting ArF to leapfrog Cymer.

2. The article stated that because of the mechanical similarities, fabs that use one model of stepper or scanner at 248nm will very likely use the same derivative model for 193. Thus, Cymer's early market share dominance bodes very well for their position in the next generation.

3. The article stated that the mix and match approach of using excimer light sources for the critical layers and old i-line equipment for the non-critical layers is fine in theory but may run into difficulty in practice. The throughput of the i-line system doesn't match up well with the excimer systems. The article implied that excimer systems may be used for non-critical steps sooner than expected so as to smooth out production bottlenecks.

All excellent news for Cymer (not that it will have any impact on the stock price).
