Emile: Unfortunately, I have to disagree with you. Luther was anti-semitic, as were other church leaders of the reformation period. Also, the Christian community persecuted Jewish people beginning shortly after the formation of the church state during the Roman Period and continuing through the inquisition and the holocaust. You may wish to deny it, but the record is there. I am afraid even 'true Christians' were involved. I certainly do not exclude Rev. Luther from the Kingdom. Have Christians participated in other persecutions? How about owning slaves? My grandfather owned slaves and was very prejudiced, yet he was a Christian in most every other area of his life, and I believe he is now in Glory. I have confessed these sins of my fathers before the Lord, and the sins of the Body of Christ before the Lord. Have mercy on us dear Jesus, we know not what we do. Today, we live in a time of enlightenment where the walls of prejudice are being pulled down by the Body of Christ. Praise God. Yet, I will not defend those that went before. They did monsterous things. If you want a reference on the history of persecution by the Christian Church, I can look it up for you. I don't recall the name of the book off-hand, and it is hard to find. Only a large library will have it. Lee |
