Hopefully the monetary/budget crisis that will fall upon us collectively if we do not start to take effective measures will knock some common sense into our collective ideological heads (I'm right and you are not) way of thinking.

No one is going to get their ideal society here if we are to survive without chaos. There is going to have to be some collective distasteful sacrifice. I think a little chaos at the beginning of negotiations might be just the ticket to break the political logjam. A 20-30 percent drop in the market in March would probably do it. And to get that all we have to do is not raise the debt ceiling. In the long run this market jolt would be of long range benefit to starting the ball rolling of having to give up some stuff we've come to like.
