It's because they're clustered together very closely... that may be due to just a higher number of interpersonal interactions, but it seems now that it very well might be that the density also causes more things that negatively affect proper brain function to accumulate in the bloodstream. It's interesting stuff, but the statistics are pretty strong. Worth a read. It surprised me a lot.


In this country, high density is usually caused by poverty. High density coupled with extreme poverty usually occurs in American cities. Crime tends to flourish in poverty esp when density levels are high. Throw in racial discrimination and you have the perfect storm. Hence the high crime rates in most American cities whether they are located in red or blue states.
