Nokia 'Smartphones' in Q3 & Q4 2012 ...
Nokia Devices and Services (D&S) 'Smartphone' Unit Sell-In (sales into distribution channels)

<< Nokia sold 2.2 million Symbian devices in Q4 slightly down from 2.3 million in Q3, and down YoY from ~18.5m in Q4 2011 ... Not to nitpick, but that sounds like a mistake-- non-WP smartphone sales were 3.4m in Q3 2012. >>
Feel free to nitpick (anytime), and thanks for correcting my Q3 Symbian sell-in number (the 2.2 million which as I carelessly and mistakenly typed should have been 3.4 million).
I was also somewhat careless in my post #8214 when I stated "Nokia specifically and deliberately referred to the newly released Series 40 Asha full touch mobile devices from the Mobile Phones business segment of Nokia Devices & Services (D&S) as opposed to the Smart Devices segment as 'smartphones' and their volumes have ramped rather well."
Nokia did of course specifically refer to the newly released Series 40 Asha full touch mobile devices (as opposed to lower end Series 40 Asha devices) from the D&S Mobile Phones business segment as smartphones in the Q3 earnings release although they did not sum Asha full touch + Symbian (Belle), and Lumia smartphones for us as they did yesterday.
Nitpicking back at ya, Nokia Devices and Services (D&S) 'non WP smartphone sales' into channels in Q3 were 9.9 million units not 3.4 million units. In Q3 Nokia D&S Mobile phones sold-in 6.5m Asha full touch smartphones and D&S Smart Devices sold in 3.4 million. Smartphones are NOT the exclusive province of D&S Smart Devices. OTOH at the moment D&S Smart Devices is only selling smartphones. No phablets, tablets, or ultrabooks -- YET. That will very likely change over time.
<< In Q4, there were negligible smartphones that weren't either Symbian (2.2m) or WP (4.4m), with 6.6m total smartphones reported. >>
In Q4 there were negligible (Symbian) Belle smartphones sold in by Jo Harlow's Smart Devices segment of D&S and there will be even less next quarter. Smart Devices sold in 4.44 million WinPhone 7.5/8 smartphones. By contrast Timo Toikkanen's Mobile Phones segment of D&S sold in 9.3 million Asha full touch smartphones -- 58% of the 15.9 million smartphone units Nokia Devices and Services sold into channels in Q4.
