Jack, when my reasoning department says I'm using reasoning, not instinct, then it's not my tribal instinct working. When "my tribe" includes South Koreans, Japanese, Swiss, Dutch and swarms of people from Africa and all over the planet, that's a fairly wide-spread "tribe". It's so wide that using the word 'tribal' to describe my thinking about who should have nukes [or who is less bad than others] is just a method to disagree without coming up with reasons.
Arun suggested that it's as reasonable that Osama bin Laden [or Syria, North Korea, Pakistan, Putin ] has nukes as me having them. I disagree and it's not a matter of tribalism, it's a matter of reason. I don't think murderous Islamic Jihad is a good way to run the world. He thought it was. I won, he lost. His thinking ceased to exist. Mine didn't. He wanted me dead. I did not want me dead. So now he's dead. Good.
You can call that tribal and indeed it is, because people of like-minded thinking tend to group together. But tribalism in the good old days that Arun means was dna-based genocidal territorial found-wealth alpha male dominance hierarchy. Reasoning and acting in harmony with like-minded people and entities is sort of tribal, but I have no reason at all to attack other people if they are not attacking me or robbing me. Democratic thieves should beware as I am sick of them and shall wage tribal war to defend myself if necessary and democracy votes for outright slavery with me as the slave, which they are tending to do in NZ with special laws for Maoris to get property from me based on their race. Before that slavery process goes too far, I suspect democracy will take care of it - but it might not.
I admit to tribalism against mosquitoes, leeches and smallpox, with smallpox now extinct other than some prisoners in a couple of laboratories. Good riddance to those. I'd also be happy to see the end of tapeworms, AIDS, the common cold, H5N1, sars and a lot more besides. Totally species extinction would be find by me. Call me a tribalist. Yes, I do believe in evolution. There is a tendentious teleological aspect to consciousness and the AIDs virus, smallpox, tapeworm and mosquito are not at the leading edge. Neither was Osama.
But I was supposed to take a break from posting.
