I think the market knows that the debt ceiling will be resolved. The market's reaction to this whole fiasco will be contingent upon the solution that is ultimately worked out to get the issue behind us. If there are no spending cuts and another "date" set for a repeat performance down the line (which I believe to be the likely outcome), the market will probably not like that. And even if Mr. Market tries its best to shrug that off, the new credit rating downgrade(s) will likely be blamed for the downward thrust that should follow shortly after the standard "can kicking" solution that we've grown to know and love.
