Sort of. I will grant you that given the current state of affairs, preventing Sandy Hook would have been pretty much impossible.But what it did do was bring up an issue that we have been avoiding for decades. And the gun industry has taken advantage of it, shutting down almost all research on gun violence, making the analysis of the data almost impossible, by making sure that the ATF doesn't have a permanent director.

What it did do was make it possible to have a discussion of the issue. And that has been necessary for a very long time.
