What you fail to understand is that regardless of what tax regimen is used tax collections don't vary by much. Low taxes, high taxes both collect about the same amount of dollars.

Are we better off collecting less dollars on more economic activity or more dollars with reduced economic activity? If the result is the same number of dollars does that change your answer?

President Bush 43 recognized the fallacy of high taxes. His problem was he didn't discover his veto pen until after democrats got control of Congress. He threatened a veto if the Pentagon budget was over $560 Billion, but signed the bill for $700 Billion, etc. (I made up the numbers, but they reflect reality.)

Congress increased spending to punish President Bush 41, Clinton increased spending ridiculously. President Bush 43 upped the ante, and Obama has made them all look like pikers.
