The technology to reliably do that is more distant than the technology to print weapons.

That is nonsense i-node. I have a 3d printer. I am very well-versed in the technologies. We are a long ways from being able to print out a gun that won't killed the one pulling the trigger. Yes, you can print with metal, but the two methods out there available to consumers won't print something that is strong enough to allow it to be fired more than a couple of times. The ones that can produce strong enough components will never be cheap enough for consumers to own, rent or lease for a long while.

OTOH, software that can recognize images can run on a Raspberry Pi. Which costs about $35 retail. To recognize that a 3d model part is a gun component isn't too much more sophisticated than that.
