Arun, don't you think that was because Einstein was German? < Somehow, Einstein managed to write his Theory of Relatively in German (no English needed!) and an Indian translated it first from German to English . > What's the point in relation to hindi versus english? I take it you know that Germany had a LOT of Ashkenazi Jews and therefore brains, and a considerable history of physics and science in general so were not exactly laggards in such things.

Language is a numbers game, plus the quality of the design. Not all languages are equal in good design.

So a young person has to place their bets on what are good languages to learn to last them their life-time.

Languages are a community of use. Typically languages extended 20 miles, that being about as far as people could roam from their base in a day. Dialects vary like that around the world. Now that people can roam anywhere, they are adopting languages which best enable them, which usually means bigger ones. Though some people can get cash from promoting little ones. The little ones are dying out in droves. That's because they don't have enough value to stay in use. Maori for example is being abandoned though government/taxpayer cash is being poured in to try to save it.
