In L.A., Awaiting Next Casting Call City's Mayor, a Latino Democrat Facing a Term Limit, Would Say `Yes' to Any Invite to Join Cabinet

LOS ANGELES—As political resumes go, Antonio Villaraigosa's seems made for the times: the departing mayor of Los Angeles is a Latino Democrat who campaigned for President Barack Obama and champions an immigration overhaul, green energy and public transportation.

Yet after two terms as mayor of the nation's second-largest city, Mr. Villaraigosa's future is unclear. The 59-year-old mayor, who will leave office June 30, is looking for a new gig.

There is speculation that he may join Mr. Obama's cabinet. A White House spokesman declined to comment.

"I don't kiss and tell," Mr. Villaraigosa said, when asked whether he had discussed a cabinet post. "I'm not going to say what conversations I've had."

But he indicated he would accept a position if it were offered. "When you have a conversation with the president, you say, 'Yes' or 'Yes, sir.' "
