Why advocate for something that has no chance of getting passed.
Because maybe Obama might want to be a little different from every other hypocritical politician in Washington who wants to keep the debt ceiling around.

I have no quarrel with getting rid of it but think about why we are the only nation that has such procedure and why that might be.
