Before the Gypsies came the northwest India super-brains who combined with Bedouin, Palestinians and whatnot across the middle east to create Ashkenazi Jews, who subsequent to the Roman Empire conquests ended up through the middle of Europe, up into Germany and then into the USA where they now provide much of the intellectual horsepower of fantastic developments.

A casual glance at haplotypes shows just how much people have moved, and all non-Africans had a father [Eurasian Adam] who left Africa only about 25,000 years ago. The Eve of all non-Africans left about 90,000 years ago. [That difference puzzles some people but some who try can figure it out how that can be].

Females, as with other primates, tend to hop the fence for mating purposes, so their DNA tends to be spread wider than that of males who tend to hang about and guard their territory, unless conquering others or generally migrating hither and yon for hunter gatherer purposes.

1000 years is a long time linguistically. Ye olde englische of only 500 years ago was noticeably different from now. Go back to 1066 and I doubt I would have understood it.

In a single generation there are significant changes linguistically. 20 miles was the border [when walking was the major method of movement].
