I am much happier with lots of resources. And of course, there are studies on this. I believe the "break" in happiness is around 75k. People with 75k and above are pretty darn happy. People with less, are less. Even though many people (because of very natural envy) would like to think the rich aren't happy, apparently they are- and for the most part happier than the rest of the country. Why? Well they aren't going to lose their houses- and they have really nice houses. They don't need to struggle to help their children. They don't need to worry about medical care, and on and on.
I'm not sure why it needed to be studied a lot, but it has been, and it's clear- money makes for happiness, up to a certain point.
I'm an agnostic. But I sure enjoyed a little gluttony on occasion- like Thanksgiving, our holiday dedicated to gluttony. Wrath? What a cleansing emotion. Some situations just call for wrath. I have been wroth and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lust? If you haven't experienced lust, you were never a teen. Lust is awesome. Granted, like superpowers, it's a double edged sword, but it is the generative impetus for our species. Like the Romans and Greeks we should probably give it its own deity- oh wait, we have- it's called "Hollywood". Sloth? Again, who hasn't called in sick, when they weren't, and enjoyed it? Who hasn't let things slide, and taken days to recharge- even though it seemed "lazy"? Sloth has its place. Pride? Well pride is excellent. You, imo, have always seemed to have a lot of this one- so I'm surprised you wouldn't champion it as a lifestyle choice. I'm all for pride. False pride probably is sort of stupid, but as Mr. Darcy says, pride, when there is a real superiority? Why be falsely humble? That's just hypocrisy (which is a bigger problem than anything on your list, imo). |
