I was watching a good movie last night, "Touchback" where a star high school QB tells the coach he doesn't want to play in the championship game because he knows he is going to get hurt (there is a time line thing here but that's not important). The coach, of course, doesn't know, and tells the guy, "I hope this isn't how you plan to handle life. Because it gets a lot harder than just playing football." I'm not sure that today's youth are ready for the real game of life after all the self-esteem pampering they get. On the flip side, I have known people who grew up in a stern British system where nothing they did was ever good enough, and that does serious long-term damage too. You end up with arrogant, abusive people who are actually very hollow inside. Not having kids myself, I don't preach about how they should be raised. Just interesting generational trends and changes to note.
