>Yet even then, I'm still against the ban. It's really stupid and just another "nanny state" law. People have to make their OWN decisions on whether to lose weight or not. They can't go to Nanny Bloomberg and say, "Please help us, Mayor, because we can't help ourselves."

Sometimes we can't. Some things are addictive. And corporations try to take advantage of that for their own profit. It's been happening for centuries. Like with tobacco, sometimes we just have to say "enough is enough."

If I want 32 ounces of soda, I can buy two 16 ounce sodas. Or at a restaurant, I can get a refill. But chances are if I go buy a soda, I won't notice whether it was 16 ounces or 20. And that 4 ounces is something like pouring two packets of sugar into my mouth. Lots of people are doing that every day, and it's gratuitous and they don't even think about it.

We can use the term "nanny state" derisively, but sometimes it's smart defense against predatory industry.
