20% is the amount that a typical tech or biotech stock looses over night on moderately bad news. With really bad news you can even loose 50% and more. I am pretty shure that Agouron will be a succesful long term investment even if you bought at $50. But as you can see you have to expect serious volatility along the way. I have 100 shares at $50 too, bought immediately afer Agouron posted their first positive quarterly earnings. Fortunately I have quite a bit more shares at prices between $15 3/8 and $45. But I lost all my substantial paper gains and then some. I considered the current drop as a buying oportunity and bough more shares at $28.
