If we knew that a large percentage of the float had been shorted AND we stood firm with our shares AND requested our certificates, then I do not see how the stock price would tank.

If, however, a naked short position and SEC review occurred and the stock tanked then I refer you to Julius Caesar(end of play), Brutus' reflection on the actions of the Senate

"The fault, dear Cassius, lies not in the stars, but in ourselves."

If shareholders hold firm and call for certs, the stock cannot possibly tank in the face of a huge naked short position.
