Given that we're hitting the fundamental resolution of even exceptional eyes at around 450ppi, another 100ppi is going to be wasted for all except those who view their cellphone through a large fresnel lenses (a la Brazil).

The "mobile phone" form factor is likely to stay somewhere above 3.5" and below 7" that's been carved out for a small tablet.

So, incredibly, the industry is already hitting ergonomic limits for screens on portable devices. In another year or so it won't be an important differentiator.

Either we move it really close to the eye (with optics), or we remove the screen altogether and use another sense to interact with it.
