It may or may not be wild speculation. It may have significant psychological impact for potential buyers in countries such as China. The social status of owning iPhone could drop significantly with negative event as such. Social status is the single biggest factor in purchase decision for such high end devices in China. If so, Apple may have further lost negotiation power with China Mobile. Lumia or some other "cool" devices could fill the vacuum.
