I think if you look at industry leaders over a ten year timeframe, you'd be surprised at how well one can do buy-and-hold. Identifying the leaders is a difficult task, but can be done. I'm still pretty new to investing, but to think that buy and hold won't work well (at least on a truly long-term scale) for companies like MSFT, INTC, CSCO, and (hopefully) doesn't seem to jive with history and a future which appear to hold continued tech growth.
