I don't delete anything. Save all the garbage in "trashed" folders, along with the "originals" (meaning keepers) and the "press" ones (meaning optimized for press in Photoshop).

All three of these folders then go into a folder called "Date Project," whatever the date is and project is called.

Tripple backed up, off my laptop and desktop, only residing on the external hard drives, one of which ends up off site when full.

I work with 1GB bare drives in docks.

There may be a less expensive and more elegant way to go about it, but I haven't dreamt it up, yet.
