I love this rumor stuff (from MacosRumors):
Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, 5:11 PM Eastern Apple Stock: 15 3/4 (down 1/8)
THIS JUST IN: Steve Jobs and Lee Iacocca touring Claris?
According to a reliable source: About 45 minutes ago, Steve Jobs and Lee Iacocca arrived at the Santa Clara, California offices of Claris Corp. by helicopter. Word is that they left again about 15 minutes ago, after touring the facility and "attempting to keep a low profile," if that's possible when making an entrance by helicopter.
What does this mean for Apple? Speculation runs high in the face of this news, but sources at Apple, Claris, and one source who knew Iacocca during his well-publicized stint at Chrysler Corp., all suggest that this may not be such a new development: the same sources who spoke of "an anonymous indvidual" touring other Apple offices now suggest that the "individual" may have been Iacocca. Also, sources say that an overhead conversation suggests that the duo will be arriving at at least one additional location shortly, to go through another tour.
Among questions asked by Iacoca were "What kind of operational lifetime do you believe that the Mac OS has left in it?" according to one source, and "What do you think is Apple's star product?" another noted. This certainly does suggest that Iacocca is in the pipeline for the job, if he hasn't already accepted it.
This certainly is major news -- multiple updates will be made as soon as news comes in, over the course of the evening.
Update: As of 4:45 EST, Jobs and Iacocca were at the Sacramento, Ca. Apple manufacturing plant. They left again around 5 PM, and may be heading back toward Cupertino. We'll update again as soon as word comes in.
